August 31st, 2016 It Was A Dark And Stormy Night!

Clayton Jacobs' opening panel
How do you begin the greatest story ever told? By using a time-tested opener of course! Last week, jammers got together and launched every 1st panel with the opening line "It was a Dark and Stormy Night" and let the story take off from there! People were also encouraged to use Poe's "It Came Upon A Midnight Dreary" as an opener, if they wished.

The last jam of the summer had a boisterous turn-out. Thanks all for joining us in an exercise of cooperative creativity: Suzanne Marsden, Clayton Jacobs, Amy VanTorre, Andrew Stutt, Liz Walsh, Scott MacLellan, Harry Catlin, Gérard Bélec and Keith Savage.

Thanks, as always to the Shanghai Restaurant and the Kwan family for giving us a welcome, safe and creative space in which to gather and share talent, humour, zaniness and enthusiasm!

Cheers and hope to see you at the NEXT Jam!
Suzanne.

PS-There may be a few rude drawings near the end *you were warned*.

July 27th 2016 - Casual Jam/ Vacations

The summer heat kept searing us alive, but the brave souls drew anyway! Plus the Shang's A/C was fixed, so we were saved!  The theme for July was casual/ vacations and some fun stories happened around that.

Thanks to those who joined us for the evening and shared their creativity: Suzanne Marsden, Clayton Jacobs, Dwight Williams, Scott MacLellan, Andrew Stutt, Naheen Ahmed, James Rule and Liz Walsh.

Thanks also Don Kwan and the other great folks at the Shanghai Restaurant who took care of our needs, and continue to support co-operative art-making in a safe and welcome atmosphere!

Cheers,
Suzanne.

July 6th, 2016 - Don't Eat That!

Image: from FTL's 'Dungeon Master' game
"Don't Eat That!"
Inspired by the great FTL "Dungeon Master" game where you could kill purple worms and later eat 'worm rounds' to stay alive, we examined the theme of eating things you probably shouldn't.. and other flights of culinary fancy.

It was pretty hot last week, and unfortunately the Shang's A/C was malfunctioning. So it was a very brave, determined group that tackled the comic jam and put out some fun artwork. We managed not to stick to the paper too badly :-)

Thanks so much to the folks who made it out to the gathering: Suzanne Marsden, Clayton Jacobs, Liz Walsh's artwork (as she and James were traveling), Scott MacLellan, Amy VanTorre, Andrew Stutt, Gérard Bélec, Ifer and Keith Savage.

Thanks to the Shanghai Restaurant and to Don Kwan and Ed for taking care of us, trying to keep us cool by repositioning fans and bringing giant pitchers of ice water. Whew! Hopefully the next jam will be slightly cooler?

Now, on to the art!
Cheers and keep creative!
Suzanne.

**Please note, there are some pretty gruesome drawings and adult stuff as well. If anything of that nature will make you uncomfortable, or you're a minor, do not proceed.**

May 27th, 2015 6th Anniversary Jam

It had been six whole years since the Jam launched at the Shanghai Restaurant; wayyyy back in 2009. The great thing that keeps us going is the fun people who continue to come out and draw together, talk comics, movies, genre or just whatever is on their minds. I'm deeply grateful for the wonderful community of artists and writers who have made the Ottawa Comic Jam a success. Thanks!!

Thanks to the Shanghai Restaurant also for providing a safe, supportive and creative space to explore cooperative art-making!

Thanks to those who came out last May and drew together to create whacky stories: Suzanne Marsden, Clayton Jacobs, Amy VanTorre, Andrew Stutt, Liz Walsh, James Rule, Dwight Williams, Nathan Clouwater, Gisele Jobateh, Susan Shore, Ifer Lawrence, Gérard Bélec, Scott MacLellan and Teresa Waclawik.

Cheers to another 6 years!
Suzanne.
