May 30th, 2018 Comic Jam 9th Anniversary UPDATED

Jack Kirby August 28 1917 - Feb 6 1994
It's hard to believe the Comic Jam celebrated nine years of cooperative creativity, fun and enthusiasm at the end of May 2018. We are so lucky to have a great core group of artists and writers who join in every month, as well as new folks who pop by to check out what we're up to and give it a try!

Thanks to Scott MacLellan, Amy VanTorre, Ifer Lawrence, C.D. Rudd, Clayton Jacobs, James Rule, Liz Walsh, Gérard Bélec and Denis Belair for taking the time to share their creativity with the group!

We are also fortunate to have such a great venue for art-making at the Shanghai Restaurant. There is always interesting, varied artwork on the walls to help inspire us and the Kwan family make us feel right at home.

May's theme was Jack "The King" Kirby! I used photocopied cut-outs from a fantastic book I found at the Ottawa Public Library to launch ideas for panels. Also, for a few areas where the writing was a bit hard to see, I want to thank Nate Piekos at the Blambot fonts for the use of his 'BackIssues' font which made the art pop!

Here's to another nine years. Thanks everyone for continuing to make the Ottawa Comic Jam a success.

Cheers,
Suzanne.
